SERDANG, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- A total of 592 mechanics and trainees in the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) field entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) today for being the largest group in the country to take part in maintaining and servicing 592 motorcycles at once.
The record was set in conjunction with the National Skills Exposition and Carnival (KEKK) 2016 and the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) 2016, which were held simultaneously at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from 9am to noon.
The recognition certificate was presented by MBOR representative Lee Pooi Leng to the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skills Training (CIAST) director Suimi Abd Majid.
Also present was GIATMARA chief executive officer Jamal Nasir Othman.
Suimi said the feat proved that the skills possessed by the mechanics and trainees could boost the image of the country.
"This shows that we have a lot of people with skills and we need more of them so that we can develop further the existing services in the country to a level that we can be proud of," he said.
Meanwhile, Jamal Nasir described the achievement as something that Malaysians could be very proud of since it was held during the ASC 2016 attended by other ASEAN countries.
Two attempts to make it into the MBOR by TVET trainees are set to take place on Sunday and Monday at the same venue, for having the most participants in a mass haircut and sewing beads to create the largest hibiscus.
